Rep. Shelby Labs announced on Mar. 10 that Perkasie Borough has received an $81,200 grant from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Community Conservation Partnerships Program to help acquire land for a permanent community garden.

The grant will go toward purchasing about 0.35 acres at the corner of North 5th Street and Shadywood Drive in Perkasie Borough, which is the last remaining High Priority Open Space parcel identified in the borough’s Open Space Plan. The property has served as a community garden since 2007, and borough officials have obtained approval from the current owner to buy it.

“This grant will help Perkasie Borough secure open space and preserve a valued community garden for years to come,” Labs said. “Making this a permanent addition to the borough’s park system will expand access to green space and continue serving residents who rely on it.”

The project supports the goals of the Community Conservation Partnerships Program, which aims to promote park development, protect open spaces, and encourage recreation initiatives across Pennsylvania.

Labs resides with her husband and two daughters in Plumsteadville, according to the official website. She won election to her position and took office on Jan. 5, 2021, according to the official website. Labs graduated from Central Bucks High School West and earned a degree from Temple University, according to the official website.

Labs holds memberships on committees such as Human Services and Transportation, according to the official website, focusing on serving constituents in the 143rd District through these assignments.
