Reps. Kristin Marcell, Shelby Labs, and Joe Hogan have announced that the Middle Bucks Institute of Technology (MBIT) will receive an $85,000 grant from the Career and Technical Education Equipment Grant program. This funding will be used to purchase new welding equipment, allowing students to develop advanced skills in automation and manufacturing.

The grant is part of a broader initiative by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), which has allocated $4.5 million in competitive grants to over 58 career and technical centers (CTCs) and school districts. Each recipient can receive up to $85,000 to support the purchase or upgrade of equipment for approved career and technical education programs. The goal is to provide students with practical experience using industry-aligned tools, preparing them for careers in demand while supporting employer needs and workforce development.

“Investments like these provide students with hands-on experience using cutting-edge technology,” said Marcell. “MBIT is planning on purchasing a collaborative welding robot, also called a cobot, so our students have the latest technology to be ready for the workplace of today and tomorrow.”

“This grant will help in advancing educational opportunities for MBIT students,” stated Labs. “Securing this funding will allow students to learn industry-specific skills that can be applied to future employment opportunities.”

Hogan added, “MBIT continues to demonstrate its commitment to student success and innovation. This funding will allow the institution to remain a leader in preparing students for impactful careers, benefiting both our local economy and the Commonwealth.”
