Central Buck School District issued the following announcement on Dec. 23.
Ms. Linda Raitt's 5th grade virtual academy class (including students from both Buckingham and Gayman elementary schools) took third place in the 2020 Rendell Citizenship Challenge, hosted by the Rendell Center for Civics and Civic Engagement.
The Honorable Judge Marjorie Rendell, former Governor Ed Rendell, and former Pittsburgh Steeler Franco Harris judged the competition. Students wrote a paper and answered questions at the finals about whether or not the nation should eliminate the Electoral College system and replace it with the popular vote.
Over 100 5th grade classes from across the commonwealth competed in this year's challenge, and the CBSD students competed among just 12 schools that earned a place in the finals from both the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh area. Ms. Raitt's class secured a prize of $500 towards civic education!
