HARRISBURG - Pearl S. Buck International, located in Hilltown, has been awarded a grant of $54,429 from the Pennsylvania Arts and Culture Recovery Program, according to an announcement made by Rep. Shelby Labs (R-Bucks).
"I am thrilled to see Pearl S. Buck International receive this well-deserved grant," said Labs. "This grant will allow new marketing opportunities for the history museum and the historical site, both of which I recently toured. The tour provided great insights on Pearl S. Buck as a human and the impact she had on the Hilltown area at the end of her life. This grant will allow more people to have the same experience I did at the historical site and museum."
Pearl S. Buck, a Nobel Prize-winning author, is known for her literary works that explore her experiences as a daughter of missionaries in China and her time as a teacher in Nanjing. In her later years, she established the first permanent foster home for mixed-race children of Asian descent in Hilltown.
The grant from the Pennsylvania Arts and Culture Recovery Program will enable Pearl S. Buck International to enhance its marketing efforts and attract more visitors to the history museum and historical site. The funding will also help preserve the legacy of Pearl S. Buck and promote the cultural significance of her work.
This grant comes as a recognition of the impact Pearl S. Buck had on the Hilltown area and her contribution to literature and cultural understanding. It will allow more people to learn about her life and appreciate her literary achievements.
