Rep. Shelby Labs and Sen. Jarrett Coleman, along with Perkasie Borough, have announced significant grant funding for the development of Kulp Park and the purchase of body cameras for the Perkasie Police Department. The funds come from the Pennsylvania Local Share Account (LSA) program.
Perkasie will receive $652,886 to address drainage issues at Kulp Park's baseball field, recycle existing backstop and fencing materials, and upgrade field lighting. Additional improvements include installing ADA-compliant parking spaces and creating an accessible path to the field. These changes aim to enhance safety and usability while reducing light pollution.
The borough also secured $107,415 to buy 19 body cameras and 12 in-car cameras for police officers.
"We are incredibly grateful for this grant funding," said Perkasie Borough Council President James Ryder. "This is a big win for our community, and we’re excited to move these projects forward."
Council Vice President Chuck Brooks emphasized the importance of equipping officers with modern technology: "We are deeply grateful to Rep. Labs and Sen. Coleman for their unwavering support."
Rep. Shelby Labs expressed pride in supporting these initiatives: "This will allow the borough to complete necessary rehabilitations...and help our police continue to keep our community safe!"
Senator Coleman highlighted the significance of outdoor spaces: "The upgrades to Kulp Park will ensure that it can remain a focal point of the community for years to come."
The grants are funded through gaming revenues distributed by the Commonwealth Financing Authority under Act 2004-71.
