Reps. Kristin Marcell, Joe Hogan, Shelby Labs, and Sen. Frank Farry have announced that the Middle Bucks Institute of Technology (MBIT) will receive a state grant amounting to $1,489,608 from the Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program. This funding is designated for replacing 43 rooftop HVAC units and upgrading the building's automation system.
The initiative aims to enhance safety by integrating HVAC systems with smoke detectors, fire alarms, and carbon monoxide sensors. The financial burden of these upgrades will not fall on local property taxpayers due to state funding covering the costs. This investment is seen as beneficial for both the school and its community by ensuring MBIT continues to provide a safe learning environment.
Rep. Marcell emphasized the importance of investing in educational institutions: “Investing in our educational institutions is vital to ensuring safe and effective learning environments,” she stated. She expressed pride in advocating for these funds alongside Reps. Shelby Labs, Joe Hogan, and Sen. Frank Farry.
Senator Farry highlighted his support for this project: “I was happy to advocate for this funding, along with Rep. Marcell, for HVAC upgrades at Middle Bucks Institute of Technology,” he said.
Hogan expressed gratitude towards his colleagues: “These dollars will ensure our students and staff are learning in the best environment possible,” he mentioned.
Labs reiterated her commitment to student success: “It is critical we continue to invest in projects that contribute to the success of our students,” she noted.
Dr. Mark Covelle, MBIT Administrative Director, extended his thanks: “I am incredibly thankful for the support of Rep. Marcell and Sen. Ferry for this critical infrastructure improvement to MBIT," he said.
Covelle also pointed out that MBIT is experiencing record interest and enrollment levels similar to many career centers across Pennsylvania.
