Pearl S. Buck International, located in Hilltown, has received a $33,400 grant from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC), announced Rep. Shelby Labs (R-Bucks) today.

The grant is part of the Cultural and Historical Support Grant Program administered by the PHMC. This program aims to provide general operating support to Pennsylvania museums and official county historical societies that do not receive direct support from other state agency operating programs.

“I am so happy to see Pearl S. Buck International receive this grant from the PHMC,” said Labs. “I have had multiple opportunities to visit the Pearl S. Buck House and museum, and they do an excellent job at providing the history of one of Bucks County’s most influential residents.”

Pearl S. Buck was a Nobel Prize-winning author for literature in 1938. She wrote about her experiences as a daughter of missionaries to China, growing up in Zhenjiang, as well as her time there as a teacher in Nanjing at the University of Nanking in the 1920s. In her later years, she established the first permanent foster home for U.S.-born, mixed-race children of Asian descent, which was located on the same area in Hilltown.
